A hotel with a modern design focus comes to the French Riviera as the new Belle Plage hotel in Le Suquet, Cannes, opens its doors. La Clé Group is at the helm of an extensive renovation that brings new life to what was originally a seaside hotel from the 1930s.
A ten-minute walk from the Palais des Festivals, the Belle Plage hotel draws on the historical accents of traditional seaside residences with a juxtaposition of materials including wood, stone, terrazzo and plaster. Designer Raphael Navot – who previously headed projects at Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers, Le 39V restaurant and Silencio members’ club, all in Paris – has worked with the FAAR architecture studio to bring a dreamlike tranquillity to the project.
The fluid form of the exterior makes an unobtrusive addition to the landscape, with bold hues both inside and outside reflecting the colours of the land, sea and sky. In the 50 guest rooms and ten private residences, pale sandy tones make a calm foil for the deep blue of the interiors.
Custom-made furniture takes on organic forms, with bookcases drawn in ocean coral shapes, and cane-work chairs. An amalgamation of textures, in the linen-covered beds, woven rugs and wooden nightstands, brings a tactility to the room interiors. Minimalist lighting fixtures create a warm atmosphere.
Elsewhere, a Mediterranean garden of palm and pine trees by landscaper Gwenaëlle Grandjean and Les Ateliers Saint-Lazare stays faithful to the lush foliage of the surrounding area. A restaurant by chef Eyal Shani on the rooftop utilises regional products, with a menu rethought every day to reflect seasonal produce and market finds. Shani, fresh from his success at Miznon in Paris, puts the focus on simple, local food in an approach both fresh and sustainable.
For a fully rounded experience, guests can also look forward to visiting the soon-to-be-opened Villa Spa, which will offer anti-ageing procedures, detox scrubs, reflexology and massages against a verdant backdrop. §
