Salone del Mobile 2022: programme announced

The programme for the Salone del Mobile 2022 was announced by Salone president Maria Porro and FederlegnoArredo’s president Claudio Feltrin through a conference in Milan. Due to take place from 7 to 12 June 2022, the fair will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a rich programme focused on creativity and innovation. Salone del Mobile 2022: 7 – 12 June 2022 The 2022 edition of Salone del Mobile will have a strong focus on sustainability, developed through a series of guidelines sent to all exhibitors. These include employing upcycled or reusable materials (such as wood), low-environmental-impact or FSC- or PEFC-certified materials; considering the logistical sustainability of the supply sources, and employing environmentally safe products and equipment. Participating companies will endeavour to keep waste of resources and materials to a minimum during processes of building and dismantling, following principles of adaptability and disassembly for reuse.  Eurocucina, the fair’s dedicated kitchens biennial, will be part of this edition, with new launches and the latest technology by leading kitchen brands in the field. ’The event acts as a blank canvas for all its protagonists – companies, brands and designers – allowing them to project their own identities, promote their own content and tell their own stories. [It’s] a point of reference for the entire design community,’ says Porro. In light of the war in Ukraine, she continues, ‘We now believe even more in the importance of being a crossroads of cultures and styles open to the world. This is why we have made sure that the work of the exhibitors takes centre stage again.’ The return of Salone Satellite After a three-year hiatus, Salone Satellite returns for its 23rd edition, welcoming emerging designers to a new prominent location at the fair’s entrance. Exhibitors will follow the theme of ‘Designing for our Future Selves’ with a focus on inclusive design that fosters ‘autonomy, comfort, movement, usability, interaction and safety for all’. The exhibition will be designed as a welcoming piazza, enhancing the event’s role as a connector of talents and a springboard for emerging creatives, start-ups and design schools.  As a nod to this community-led approach, the talks series that debuted in 2021 at Supersalone makes a comeback with a programme led by Chiara Alessi, Beatrice Leanza and Wallpaper* Milan Editor Maria Cristina Didero, focusing on themes of people, beauty and the planet. Design with Nature: an installation by Mario Cucinella Celebrating the fair’s 60th anniversary is an installation by Bologna architect Mario Cucinella, featuring a 1,400 sq m space set within Pavilion 15. Reflecting on the events of the past few years, the architect created a space centred on social connections and sharing. Based on Cucinella’s focus on circularity, the sinuous seating is made of recycled materials and is enriched by greenery. A landscape and meeting point within the fair, the installation is based on themes of ecological transition, the home as the prime urban element and the city as a mine.  After the fair, the structures will be repurposed throughout Milan, used to create, for example, a small library for a school, a classroom, a chair for a public space, a table for a laboratory among others. §
